Complementary Health Practioners
Q & A Session

Practioners in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, were asked a series of questions about their particular practice or therapy. The following are all of the answers provided by Rachelle Wood, Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant.

Registered Nutritional Consultant/Practitioners believe it is important to eat a variety of foods to ensure all essential nutrients are included in one's diet. A RNC/P will not only recommend dietary lifestyle changes, but is also trained to design personalized dietary supplementation. They can also provide guidance in making sense out of conflicting theories of nutrition.

Nutritionists have varying levels of education from someone with little or no education to an individual who has obtained a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree. This is because the term "nutritionist" is not a legally protected term in most parts of the world. As a result, the term "nutritionist" is subject to several interpretations. Many nutritionists appear on television, in newspapers and magazines, and write nutritional books, which may or may not have any real informational value regarding diet.

A Registered Nutritional Consultant/Practitioner is trained to provide individual and group education. A RNC/P's counsel can include food intake evaluation, food selection and preparation recommendations, supplementation recommendations, education and the design of individualized diet programmes based on an assessment of the body's symptoms.
